My Recent Ramblings

Looking back is for the birds.

Or is it? Is looking back and thinking about our previous actions and thoughts and experiences a good thing?  Or is it an exercise in futility since we can't go back and change or undo the past?  Does it provide clarity and the opportunity to learn from a distance? ...

Where will you be 5 years from now?

How many times have you been asked - or asked yourself - this question.  How much time or energy have you spent crafting your answer to this?  It seems like more often than not, the answers to this question tend to be of the "established in my career, married, 2.5...

2011 (or the year Melissa got her groove back)

2011.  Oh, what a year you were.  You provided some great times and some not so great times.  A lot of people hated you and can't wait to move ahead to the next year.  My feelings towards you are a bit more complex and live quite firmly in the gray area between hate...

You had me at meat tornado?

Cats. The internet is made up of approximately 75% cat related items - videos, pictures, shopping, you name it, it's out there. Yesterday, my roomie shared with me one of the most-funny cat related things I have seen on the internet in a long time - Cats that Look...

Thanks. Gracias. Danke.

Throughout the month of November, I have been posting things I am thankful for on Facebook. Now, I will admit, I got the idea after seeing other people doing the same thing, but I probably will continue this even after the month is over. For me, this is more than some...

No rest for the weary. . .

Wow.  I can't believe that I've been back from Nepal for three weeks already.  The past three weeks have pretty much been a blur, between catching up on sleep, getting caught up at work, traveling to Chicago for a weekend, and then a beyond busy week at...

Things that make me go hmmm. . . .

Usually when I find an article I like, I’ll post it on Facebook or tweet it, add some appropriate commentary (often witty and/or snarky), and share with others. There is no rhyme or reason sometimes to what I find interesting in a given day – sometimes it’ll be an article about some current event, something about a new movie, TV show or movie, or something completely random. My interests are varied (as anyone who has spent any time with me can attest to) and I have the attention span of a small animal at times (again, as anyone who has spent any time with me can attest to), so I’m going to try something different. Not only will I aggregate a few things in one place, I’ll also post them once-a-day (when the mood strikes) and try to write a bit more than would fit on Twitter or work on Facebook. Feel free to add your own comments to my thoughts – I am always interested in hearing what others think about things I think about. . .

I think I’ll go for a walk outside now. . . .

So, I am kind of special at times. Yesterday was one of those times. Why? I was so excited about getting my haircut, that I left my keys on my desk. Which I realized *after* my appointment, looooooong after everyone had left my office and locked up for the day. So I...

Here kitty, kitty, kitty. . .or not.

The next day and a half spent at Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge allowed me to indulge in a few of my favorite things - namely taking pictures, reading, and writing.  It may surprise folks but I really enjoyed the time spent in the great outdoors.  Our rooms had...

Ugh x 1000000000

So, it happened. I got sick. Pretty much immediately upon our arrival to Pokhara. Awesome! (or not) I spent the last day and a half in bed. However I am finally feeling better and hope to actually leave the hotel room tomorrow. During some brief periods of being...

Hurry up and wait

Greetings from the Kathmandu Airport. We are waiting on our (delayed) flight to Pokhara. They divided the group in half for this flight, and my mom and I were in the second group. We got an extra hour of sleep and to prep. However, once we got to the airport - the...

It has been at least 3 days since I had coffee

But I made it to Nepal!   Today starts our first full day in Kathmandu. After arriving yesterday morning at 8 am, we had a low key day with nothing hard scheduled. I was most thankful to get out of my travellig clothes - 30+ hours of travelling later.  ...
