I’m hosting Thanksgiving at my house this year, kinda. It’s only going to be my mom, my pops, and my roommate (as of right now).
There are a few items that I know we will include in our menu: turkey, dirt rolls (family tradition), & green bean casserole.
Apart from this, I need to find some other options. Since I’m allergic to most of the traditional side items, I’m having to be a bit more creative. I am going to test run some mashed rutabags this weekend, and will likely do some stuff with sweet potatoes, but other then that I’m drawing blanks.
Here’s where you all get to play along – I want your suggestions! Comment below or send an email to me at melissa@jamrockstar.com with a recipe.
How about pineapple? I have an easy recipe for baked pineapple. Crushed pineapple, eggs, sugar.
Pineapple is touch and go. I’m not outright allergic to it, but it can cause me issues. Send over the recipe though!
Roast the rutabagas with parsnips and apples, and then mash them. It’s so good! If you need to thin to puree well, add a little cream. Can you do green beans and mushrooms? Green bean casserole can be pared down to pretty basic stuff that is really good.
wild rice casserole is a standard for thanksgiving in our house. Husband’s mom’s recipe.
Oh – I have some wild rice that I got at the Farmer’s Market this summer. That sounds like it could be a winner.
What about desserts? Pumpkin cheesecake is fantabulous. But I’m not sure what you’re allergic to. Cheesecake and pumpkin and gingersnaps and graham crackers (for the crust)?
